House Fire Ruled aArson
GALVESTON — A weekend house fire has been ruled arson, a fire official said Monday.
A notebook set ablaze ignited a grass fire that then burned the exterior of a two-story garage apartment in the 1400 block of 41st Street, Galveston Fire Marshal Gilbert Robinson said.
The incident was reported at 4:21 p.m. Saturday. No one lived at the residence, Robinson said.

Cruise Ship Passengers Arrested On Warrants
GALVESTON — Two people returning from a cruise were arrested during the weekend when U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials found outstanding warrants listed in their names, an official said.
A man and woman were arrested by Port of Galveston police on warrants alleging theft and larceny, a border protection official said.
The warrants originated from Bexar County, the official said.

Four Shots Hit House
DICKINSON — A dispute during a backyard football game during the weekend might have resulted in someone shooting a house four times, authorities said Monday.
A house in the 2900 block of Avenue C near Dickinson was hit four times by gunfire about 8 p.m. Sunday, a spokesman with the Galveston County Sherif’s Office said.
Although residents were home, no injuries were reported, authorities said.

No Injures Reported In Armed Carjacking
GALVESTON — Police are seeking four men accused of an armed carjacking, authorities said.
Raul Bailon told police he was sitting in his car with a friend in the 5300 block of Avenue P 1/2 at 12:11 a.m. Monday when four teenagers approached.
One pulled a pistol and demanded money, Galveston police said.
Bailon was robbed of cash and his keys. The teens fled in a 2006 Toyota Camry with Texas license plate 631XKT, police said.
The car still was missing late Monday. No injuries were reported.

Resident Confronts Electronics Burglar
GALVESTON — Police are probing a home invasion in which a man awoke to find someone disconnecting his television and videocassette recorder, authorities said Monday.
Ronald Squares suffered minor injuries when he confronted the intruder in his house in the 1400 block of 13th Street about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, police said.
Police described the thief as a white man in his late 20s, 6 feet 2 inches tall and 225 pounds. No arrests were made.

Man Shot In Back Improving
GALVESTON — The condition of a man who was shot in the back Saturday has improved.
Police say Jorge A. Ortiz, 26, was shot while in The Last Call bar, 4102 Broadway, and was taken to the University of Texas Medical Branch. He was listed Monday under the name George Ortiz Hernandez and was in serious condition in surgical intensive care, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Police made no arrest. Ortiz was listed in critical condition Sunday.
