LA MARQUE — A 2-mile stretch of state Highway 146 in La Marque will be shut down Monday and Tuesday as state road crews begin a 30-day bridge project.
The highway will be closed to traffic from FM 519 to the Texas City Wye while crews repave and make repairs to the overpass, Texas Department of Transportation spokeswoman Karen Othon said. The roadway is scheduled to reopen Wednesday morning, but work on the bridge will continue for about a month.

Motorcycle Driver Hurt In Wreck
SANTA FE — A man was in critical condition Saturday after his motorcycle collided with the back of a suburban on state Highway 6 near Algoa-Friendswood Road, sheriff’s officials said.
The driver of the motorcycle was life-flighted at about 7 p.m. to the University of Texas Medical Branch John Sealy Hospital with a serious head injury, Maj. Ray Tuttoilmondo, a Galveston County Sheriff’s Office spokesman, said.
The man, in his early 20s, was traveling westbound on Highway 6 when he struck the suburban, also heading west, just before 6:30 p.m., Tuttoilmondo said.
The accident caused state Highway 6 to shut down, and crews still were clearing the wreckage at 8:30 p.m.
Officials said they believe speeding was a factor in the accident.
