Tips Sought On Rash Of ATV Thefts
Authorities are asking for tips in a rash of all terrain vehicle thefts across the southern part of Galveston County’s mainland.
An Algoa man awoke Wednesday night to the sound of an ATV running through his property, and he fired a warning shot. No one was injured, and the suspects fled, authorities said.
The rash of thefts occurred in Santa Fe and La Marque. The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office asked anyone with information to call 866-248-8477.

Robbers Target Market Owner’s Payroll
BACLIFF — Armed robbers targeting a meat market’s payroll threatened to kill the owner and her daughter, authorities said Thursday.
The owner of La Mejor Meat Market left a bank and was approached by two men at 11:49 a.m. Wednesday in the 900 block of Grand Avenue in Bacliff. One called the owner by name and forced her into her automobile, the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office said.
The men left in a 1990s or early 2000 model gray Ford F-150 pickup. The suspects wore gray jackets and brown toboggan caps. Deputies asked anyone with information to call 1-866-248-8477.

Fire Damages Oil Exploration Vessel
TEXAS CITY — Firefighters extinguished Thursday the second fire in the last week that damaged an oil exploration vessel, an official said.
Welders ignited insulation about 3 p.m. in The Fairfield New Venture, a 250-foot vessel dry docked at Bollinger Shipyard in Texas City, Bruce Clawson, the city’s director of emergency management, said.
Firefighters extinguished the fire by 4:30 p.m. No injuries were reported and there was no danger to the public, Clawson said.
